Unemployed? Come to DC on December 1!

Last week, the majority of Americans just celebrated the Thanksgiving Holiday with a feast. However, too many Americans, especially the 14 million who are unemployed, could not afford a feast this year.

That’s why Penn ACTION has been fighting for fighting for the unemployed in many ways, including an event we did in Bucks County a little over a week ago.

And it is why we are joining with the AFL-CIO and the Philadelphia Unemployment Project to take part in an event in Washington on Wednesday, December 1, to demand that Congress keep federal funding of extended unemployment benefits.

If you are unemployed—or have suffered unemployment during the current recession and benefitted from unemployment insurance—please join us.  RSVP here  today or contact Robin Stelly at (203) 216-9719. (Given the short time frame before the event, we can’t guarantee you a seat on the bus if we don’t hear from you today.)

A bus will leave Bucks County at 6:00 am from

Steelworkers Union Hall
920 Trenton Road
Fairless Hills, PA 19030

And Philadelphia at 6:40 from

16th Street and JFK Boulevard
Philadelphia, PA

and arrive in Washington in time for a briefing and lunch at the AFL-CIO, a press conference on Capitol Hill at 12:30 pm. After the press conference, we will hold lobbying meetings with our Senators and members of Congress. We will leave Washington between 3:30 and 4:00 pm and return to Philadelphia about 6:30 and Bucks County about 7:00.

This event is critical both for the unemployed and for the rest of us as well because the money the unemployed receive from unemployment insurance goes right back into the economy, helping create jobs for all of us.

So, If you are or have been unemployed, RSVP here  today or contact Robin Stelly at (203) 216-9719 to join us in Washington, DC to call for continued funding for extended unemployment benefits. (Given the short time frame before the event, we can’t guarantee you a seat on the bus if we don’t hear from you today.)
