Lawrence Farnese<\/strong>,<strong> State Rep. Babette Josephs<\/strong>, \u00a0<strong>Carol Tracy<\/strong> from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.womenslawproject.org\/\">Women&#8217;s Law Project<\/a>, \u00a0<strong>Brenda Shelton Dunston<\/strong> of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blackwomenshealthproject.org\/\">Black Women&#8217;s Health Alliance<\/a>,\u00a0<strong>Dayle Steinberg<\/strong> from<a href=\"http:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/ppsp\/\"> Planned Parenthood Southeastern PA<\/a>, <strong>Kistine Carolan <\/strong>of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.momobile.org\/\">Maternity Care Coalition<\/a> and Penn ACTION&#8217;s <strong>Marc Stier<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>As Stier pointed out, the attacks on women are not confined to attempts to role back access to reproductive care to the dark ages of back alley abortions, the attacks also extend to repealing the Affordable Care Act, which does more than any law in recent memory to bring women&#8217;s access to quality care into parity with men&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>With Planned Parenthood the target of <a href=\"http:\/\/wonkroom.thinkprogress.org\/2011\/02\/18\/nadler-pp\/\">possibly unconstitutional legislation<\/a>, defense of the medical service provider was a priority for several of the speakers. \u00a0Carol Tracy urged the crowd not to let win the current attacks on an organization that &#8220;has gone to jail for us.&#8221; \u00a0Brenda Shelton Dunston described Planned Parenthood as a place where black women &#8220;feel comfortable in going to seek quality health care.&#8221; \u00a0 Dayle Steinberg assured supporters that Planned Parenthood is here to stay. \u00a0 Kistine Carolan reminded us that &#8220;budget cuts and blocking health reform will put the health of women and families in jeopardy.&#8221; \u00a0 Senator Farnese and Rep. Josephs both wondered why Harrisburg is spending time blocking women&#8217;s access to health care instead of creating jobs that the commonwealth so desperately needs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Please take a minute to sign on to our petition at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/paforwomenshealth.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">PAforWomensHealth.org<\/a>. <\/strong> Deliveries of signatures begin the week of February 21 in Bucks County with a visit to Rep. Fitzpatrick&#8217;s office. \u00a0Rep. Fitzpatrick voted for repeal of the Affordable Care Act and is an original cosponsor of H.R. 3, which allows an incest exception only for minors and until recently attempted to redefine rape as &#8220;forcible rape&#8221;. \u00a0 Read more about H.R. 3 at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/aboveavgjane.blogspot.com\/2011\/02\/federal-bill-h-r-3-rape-only-if.html\" target=\"_blank\">Above Average Jane<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The House of Representatives has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2011\/01\/19\/health-care-repeal-vote-s_1_n_810835.html\">already voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act<\/a>. \u00a0 Today they voted to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2011\/02\/18\/planned-parenthood-fundin_n_825258.html\">strip federal funding<\/a> from Planned Parenthood. \u00a0Currently, there is legislation pending in both Harrisburg and Washington that aims to stop women from using their own money to purchase health insurance that covers abortion care. \u00a0In addition, the Continuing Resolution that is coming before Congress the\u00a0<span style=\"color: #1e1e1e;\">week of Feb. 21st<\/span> is proposing massive cuts in health care programs that support women and children including the elimination of all federal funding for family planning and reproductive health services as well as deep cuts to maternal and child health programs. \u00a0All of these proposals will have catastrophic consequences for women and their families. \u00a0Now is the time to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.paforwomenshealth.org\/\">take action<\/a>. \u00a0We won&#8217;t go back.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Penn ACTION teamed up\u00a0with Raising Women&#8217;s Voices of Southeastern PA on Thursday, February 17 when over 100 supporters of women&#8217;s health and health care reform rallied in Philadelphia in view of City Hall.
