There will be a vote in the Senate on Thursday on the Estate Tax. As an excellent editorial in the Inquirer on Monday pointed out, ending the Estate Tax makes no sense. The Estate Tax only taxes a tiny proportion of people in this country. It takes a relatively small proportion of the estates of people until those estates get very large.<\/p>\n
It is an important source of federal revenue. And, one thing the Inquirer editorial did not point it, it is critical if we want to prevent a hereditary oligarchy\u2014rule by the rich\u2013from arising in the United States. (I know, sometimes it seems we have an oligarchy already. But a hereditary oligarchy would be worse.)<\/p>\n
Here is the plan, which I just got from Craig Kaufman and Jeff Garis of PA Action:<\/p>\n
\u2013We start at the Doylestown courthouse, at the war monument (right near Rep. Fitzpatrick\u2019s 60 N. Main St. office), at 10am sharp. We will have rally outside and then go in to ask\/pressure\/challenge Fitzpatrick\u2019s people who said last Friday that they felt he should support us on this (ie., we pushed to have him call Specter, and now we\u2019ll demand that if he didn\u2019t already call, that he call Specter on the spot).<\/p>\n
\u2013We\u2019ll then get a caravan to go down to meet outside Specter\u2019s office in Philadelphia at 12pm. The address is 600 Arch Street, Suite 9400. We\u2019ll do a rally for the press and public and deliver Specter the 6-foot tall \u2019silver\u2019 spoons and report on PA being affected by the Estate Tax.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s TRILLION DOLLARS on Specter and Fitzpatrick\u2019s heads, so let\u2019s put the pressure on. We had Action News 6 and radio station 1060, last week on this issue at Fitzpatrick\u2019s office.
